Our 30-person cast has been working together over the past year to create the content for the musical — including stories, scenes, choreography, and original songs. This musical is rooted in the lived experiences of participants, many of whom have experienced immense challenges finding affordable and safe housing in Orange County. Joined by grassroots allies, our cast has come together to make these stories come to life. And after one year of this collaborative process, we are excited to share this production with you!
“Affordable Housing: The Musical” will premiere with the support of Carolina Performing Arts in CURRENT ArtSpace, for just two performances!
Saturday, November 23rd — 7:30pm
Sunday, November 24th — 4:30pm

Join for Pre-Show Event by Carolina Planning
Visit installation on Nov. 23rd between 4-7pm or Nov. 24th from 1-4pm.
The musical will premiere in concert with the opening of “In the Shadows of Ferguson,” an immersive multi-media installation that tells a story about our racially divided spatial world. Using St. Louis as the setting, this show will share stories about the damaging effects of housing and urban policy on the daily lives of African Americans. Hear about redlining, restrictive covenants, municipal fragmentation, subsidized housing, and how these policies created the environment where Mike Brown, Jr. was shot to death.
The installation will be free and open to the public at Davis Library on UNC’s campus with special hours so that musical guests can visit prior to attending the performance. Visit installation on Nov. 23rd between 4-7pm or Nov. 24th from 1-4pm. Refreshments provided.
